The British Association for Adoption & Fostering is a very useful starting point. It also has section/information specific to each country within the British Isles.
Every social services dept has an adoption/fosetering dept. This should be your first port of call. You can call through to speak with a duty Social Worker and are likely to be invited to attend an Information day/evening.
The re are many voluntary agencies with a more tailored /specific remit; e.g. faith based organisations, agencies specifically placing black and minority ethnic children and so forth.
Let's not forget this website too! Click on the tab Adoption On & Off C4, then click on Links & Resources.
You could also try the parenting/childcare section of your local bookstore (online or on the high street)
There is quite a bit of info out there to help. You're bound to find an agency, book, or information site relevant to you and the family you wish to become!”
i am in the same boat, they go on about all the children that need homes but no one knows where to go.
over the last few days i have found out that your local council should know of all the adoption/fostering agencies in the area and there's a website - www.adoption.org.uk i think from what i've read so far the agencies on this website are mainly in london but it contains lots of very useful information, covers nearly all questions asked, includes all the step by step procedures and you can do a quick test to see if you will be eligible. you can also request an information pack.”
If you are in Lincolnshire, we are looking for adoptive parents, log on to lincolnshire.gov.uk /adoption”
